Gold filled jewellery is a valuable alternative to solid gold. Gold filled jewellery is not to be confused with gold plated jewellery. It consists of a thicker layer of solid gold bonded to the base material. This layer of solid gold can have different karats. All our gold filled pieces are 3 microns making them durable, tarnish resistant and hypoallergenic.
What about the overall longevity? As long as gold filled pieces are well cared for they can last years. Our piece are stamped; this guarantees the purity and the minimum gold thickness that is used to plate gold filled jewellery.
What are the requirements?
By law, the total weight of a gold filled item must contain 5% (or 1/20) of gold. If it contains less than 5%, it cannot legally be called gold filled. For comparison, the total amount of gold a gold plated item usually has is under 0.05% of the overall weight of the product.
Vermeil is pronounced vehr-may; it's French! which is a legally regulated term that refers to a high quality kind of gold-plated jewellery. The benefits of gold vermeil include its longevity, affordable price and high quality; it’s what we like to call affordable luxury and means you can wear your favourite piece on repeat.
